The link between education and women’s empowerment is undisputed. Yet, a simple, biological fact—menstruation—remains a significant barrier to keeping girls in school. At TGF India, we see Menstrual Health Management (MHM) as a critical, non-negotiable component of educational infrastructure.

When a girl hits puberty without support, her world often shrinks. Faced with shame, pain, lack of products, and poor school sanitation, she starts missing school during her period. These absences accumulate, leading to learning gaps, low self-esteem, and eventual dropout. This not only curtails her individual potential but also impacts community development and national progress.

To make education truly inclusive, we must address the monthly barrier:

  • MH-Friendly Schools: Schools need functional, separate toilets with water, soap, and private disposal systems.

  • Access to Products: On-site availability of emergency sanitary pads can be a game-changer.

  • Comprehensive Education: Integrating scientifically accurate menstrual education into the curriculum for ALL students normalizes the topic and reduces stigma.

  • Supportive Environment: Trained, empathetic female teachers who can provide guidance and support are essential.

Investing in MHM in schools has a multiplier effect. It improves attendance, boosts participation, and signals to girls that their education matters. An educated woman makes informed health choices, participates in the workforce, and invests in her family’s future. By ensuring girls can manage their periods with dignity in school, we aren’t just retaining students—we are building a nation of empowered leaders.
