Breaking Barriers, One Pad at a Time: Menstrual Health Drive at Irum Manzil Government School

Menstruation is a natural biological process, yet for far too many young girls in India, it remains a subject shrouded in silence, shame, and stigma. Breaking this cycle requires more than just conversation; it requires action, education, and community support.

On a vibrant morning at Irum Manzil Government School, we at The Girl Foundation (TGF) had the privilege of conducting a comprehensive Menstrual Health Education & Donation Drive, made possible through the generous CSR support of Gemini Edibles & Fats India Limited (GEF India) under their “Freedom” Healthy Cooking Oils campaign.

Our mission was clear: to ensure that no girl has to miss school or feel ashamed because of her period.

Dismantling Myths with Knowledge

We began the day with an interactive awareness session led by our dedicated volunteers. In a culture where menstruation is often considered “impure” or a topic to be whispered about, our session focused on breaking myths and dismantling stigma.

We spoke candidly with the adolescent girls about the biological science behind menstruation, emphasizing that it is a sign of health and strength, not a curse or a weakness. Together, we tackled common taboos—such as dietary restrictions and isolation during periods—with facts, empowering the girls to question age-old misconceptions that often hinder their confidence and mobility.

The Power of Access: Dignity Through Hygiene

Education without resources is incomplete. A key pillar of this drive was ensuring access to menstrual hygiene products. Thanks to the sponsorship from GEF India, we distributed high-quality sanitary napkins to the students.

For many girls in government schools, the lack of access to affordable sanitary products is the primary reason for dropping out of school once they hit puberty. By providing these essential supplies, we are not just distributing pads; we are safeguarding educational continuity and restoring dignity.

Nurturing Futures, Supporting Health

This initiative goes beyond menstrual health. Our partnership with GEF India—a brand focused on “Freedom” and healthy living—allowed us to highlight the vital connection between overall physical well-being and menstrual hygiene.

We are deeply grateful to GEF India for their generous sponsorship and shared vision. Their support exemplifies how meaningful collaboration between corporate entities and non-profits can create lasting social impact. Together, we told the girls of Irum Manzil Government School that their health matters, and that they have a community standing firmly behind them.

A Step Towards a Healthier Tomorrow

As the drive concluded, the atmosphere at Irum Manzil was electric with a new sense of confidence. Smiles replaced the usual shyness associated with the topic. By addressing the twin challenges of ignorance and inaccessibility, we have planted the seeds for a future where girls can manage their menstruation with safety and pride.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and students of Irum Manzil Government School for their enthusiastic participation, and to Gemini Edibles & Fats India Limited for making this drive possible.

Together, we are breaking barriers and nurturing futures.
